A Home For the Holiday

I don't think it hit me how badly I wanted to find a house until the holidays came around. When I packed away my stuff this summer, the Christmas items ended up in the pod because I completely expected to be in my new home by the time I needed them. The two nativity sets that I love, the Holy Family set that I purchased at a post-holiday sale last year, assorted boxes of Christmas cards that I'd accumulated over the years and planned to use this year. My ornaments. Thankfully, by the time I was sitting down to Christmas Eve dinner, I could already imagine where all of those things would go in my new house. By the time I sent my Christmas cards, I knew that next year I'd be able to send those other cards next year, with a new return address.

One of my favorite purchases is a wine glass that I bought. It is one of those hand-painted glasses by a company named Lolita. They are the sassy glasses you often see in Hallmark, and they are generally about $30. So, when I saw some at 75% off, I thought I'd take a closer look. That's when I found the one that was perfect for me: "Home For the Holiday." It pictures several doors decorated for the holiday. One of my other purchases in the post-Christmas sales was lit garland, and in my mind I've already pictured it hanging over my door next year, so I felt drawn to this glass in particular.

While this glass is meant for use during the Christmas season, I intend to have it in permanent residence in my cupboards. Once I have moved all of my stuff out of my pod and my parents' house into my house, I plan to drink a glass of nice wine in this glass. I will nestle deep into my favorite chair, wrapped in my favorite blanket, sipping my wine and enjoying the new home I am creating. It will be my reminder of the joy I felt in finding my house around the holidays, and the excitement and gratitude I have for this opportunity. Even when I am too poor paying my mortgage to drink anything in it besides tap water.
